**Please Note** Older, oxidized domes cannot be matched. When changing domes, if there are skylights next to each other ESPECIALLY if they're in the same room--you might want to change out all the domes in that room for them to match.
While looking at the corners of the dome just inside the flange, the dome will either slope up to the center of the dome [GRADUAL RISE] or it will come up almost an inch at almost a 90 degree angle before sloping up to the dome center [QUICK RISE]. The quick rise look like they have little shoulders in the corners.
If your retaining rail does not match ALL THREE--we need the actual dome measurement. This is easily done by taking the retaining rail off and measuring the dome from flange to flange.
One more thing about flange width--we are not sure why domes are made with an extra wide flange when they do not NEED to have a wide flange. On the wide rails, usually the dome isn't seated 1/4" away from the side of the rail as it would on a narrower rail and sometimes even has a little place on the frame where the dome has to sit INSIDE of that, too. There are instances where they have to have a wide rail, but it is not very common. Call us or send us pictures if you are ever in doubt about what you need.
Please go to Photo Gallery/Domes to view pictures.
RETROFIT ACRYLIC WITH INSULATED GLASS::
Glass usually requires a different retaining rail because the glass is 1 1/8" - 1 3/16" thick. If the skylight has quick rise domes--normally, glass is not a recommended option. The quick rise frames have a piece of metal the glass would have to set on and we believe it will cause stress on the glass. Some people have cut the piece of metal down so the glass sets on the frame or have put a piece of gasket on the metal that will flare out to give the glass a broader seat, but when we are installing--we will not alter the frame or put gasket to install glass on frames that would normally require QUICK RISE domes. We believe it puts stress on the glass and may cause issues in the future.
::PLEASE NOTE::
Older, oxidized plastic and new plastic will not have the same clarity. When installing new skylights and/or replacement domes--please be aware of this factor because the clarity and light transmission will be higher. When there are skylights side by side in the same room and only one is broken--changing out the broken ones only will be highly noticeable from inside the house or building. Custom colored domes are available, but may be limited by size and availability.
